Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is committing up to $275,000 for tornado disaster response for those affected by the epic tornado outbreak that ripped through four southern states April 27.
The Thrivent commitment includes funds that will be sent to LCMS World Relief and Human Care (WR-HC) and two other Lutheran relief organizations.
This disaster-response support will provide up to $250,000 to supplement funds through Thrivent Financial chapter service teams nationwide and $25,000 in additional “Care in Regions” funds for volunteer work coordinated by Thrivent Financial staff in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Tennessee.
For every $2 raised by chapter service teams (individuals from at least six separate Thrivent Financial member families), Thrivent Financial will provide an additional $1, up to its total $250,000 commitment. This means that as much as $750,000 (Thrivent’s $250,000, plus $500,000 from member appeals, collections or fundraising) could be raised for disaster recovery.
In addition to LCMS WR-HC, Lutheran Disaster Response and Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Disaster Response will receive tornado-relief funds from the initiative.

July 1 is the deadline for this National Chapter Response effort.
