ST. LOUIS (July 23, 2013) — In honor of their faithful service to the LCMS, the Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison, president of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, today recognized the outgoing members of the Synod Board of Directors.
“I’m really proud of you, proud to be associated with all of you and what you’ve done,” said Harrison.
Noting the qualities of each outgoing member, Harrison described the Rev. Dr. Robert Kuhn, chairman, as doing a “fantastic job” and mentioned that “we were all determined we’d have a good Board of Directors that would work harmoniously together, and in large measure that is because of Bob, who set the right tone at the beginning.”
Harrison also praised Walter Brantz for his “good work” and “great spirit,” spoke to the “fairness” and “wisdom” of the Rev. Dr. Donald Muchow, the hardworking and assertive nature of Kermit A. Brashear, and Curtis Pohl’s strong aptitude in business and finance.
Following an enthusiastic standing ovation from the convention, Harrison also recognized the following four newly elected members of the Board:
- Dr. Gloria S. Edwards, Layperson, Portola Valley, Calif.
- Kurt M. Senske, Commissioned, Austin, Texas.
- Christian Preus, Layperson, Plymouth, Minn.
- Kathy A. Schulz, Layperson, Augusta, Mo. (not present).
The 65th Regular Convention of the LCMS is meeting July 20-25 at the America’s Center Convention Complex under the theme “Baptized for This Moment.” Among convention participants are some 1,200 clergy and lay voting delegates.
