Registration drive opens for ‘LCMS U’ network
Missouri Synod’s new campus-ministry initiative will connect, support college students
ST. LOUIS, May 6, 2013—On practically every college campus there are challenges to the biblical worldview, doctrine, ethics and practices. LCMS U, the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s new campus-ministry network, will serve to connect and support Lutheran Christian students, congregations and campus ministries, so that students are equipped to boldly bear witness to Christ on their college campuses.
Registration is now open for intentional campus ministries in the LCMS to become part of LCMS U. Qualified campus ministries that register by June 15 will be included in the 2014 edition of The Lutheran Annual. There are no fees or charges for registering campus ministries.
“The primary goal of LCMS U is to encourage, support and prepare students for responding to challenges to the truth of God’s Word,” said the Rev. Marcus T. Zill, coordinator of Campus Ministry for the LCMS and pastor of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church and Campus Center in Laramie, Wyo. “Our registration drive this spring is aimed at helping to grow the network of LCMS campus ministries and encourage the development of new campus outreach in order to serve more students.”
Other emphases of LCMS U include:
- Providing campus-ministry training opportunities for church leaders interested in starting or refocusing campus ministry efforts,
- Encouraging greater student involvement in campus ministry activities, and
- Sponsoring ongoing educational conferences and programs for students and ministry leaders.
