LCMS Urban & Inner-City Mission (UICM) now has a website, lcms.org/citymission, with information about what the ministry does, what’s going on in the cities and how churches, schools and members can help.
UICM is working to boost revitalization efforts in city ministries that reach out across cultures with the Gospel.
With the website, LCMS members now have a place to go to get the latest happenings in urban mission, in order to better support and encourage LCMS urban missionaries.
The Rev. Steven Schave, director of UICM with the Office of National Mission, pointed out that UICM “provides resources for churches that wish to transform the chaos, death and decay that often plague the cities in which they are located into communities characterized instead by peace, life and renewal.
“The works of mercy carried out by LCMS urban missionaries are anchored by Word-and-Sacrament ministry to bring about life, light and hope through the forgiveness of sins,” he said.
UICM also has a new Facebook page — facebook.com/lcmscitymission — where followers can connect with others who are interested or involved in urban and inner-city mission and keep tabs on the progress of several UICM projects and missions.

I know that we have many wonderful missions overseas, but there is much work to be done here in the United States. I am curious whether our LCMS is partnering with any other denominations in any of the projects. This is, indeed a mission in which the LCMS can assume a leadership role, and be a model for other Christian and charitable organizations. This is a wonderful example of “Faith in Action.” Christ said, “Whatever you have done for the least of these, my brothers, you have done for Me.”
