A new resource specifically for Lutheran home-schoolers is now available from LCMS School Ministry. The handbook, titled Eternal Treasures: Teaching Your Child at Home, was co-written by Cheryl Swope and Rachel Whiting.
The 250-plus-page resource provides the foundation and doctrinal underpinnings for this type of education. In addition, it covers the how-tos of home schooling — from choosing curriculum, to keeping records, to avoiding common pitfalls — while also discussing how to incorporate the Christian faith into each and every day.
In the foreword, LCMS President Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison writes that Eternal Treasures is a “veritable powder and keg, including match and fuse, to bring a great education to your own children, today.”
Throughout the book, Swope and Whiting include recommended readings, practical ideas, and essays and advice from other Lutheran home-schooling families.
“Lutheran families may consider a plethora of options related to the education of their children. Eternal Treasures: Teaching Your Child at Home will become the definitive resource for Lutheran families who are seeking to establish a quality home-school experience for their children,” said Terry Schmidt, director of LCMS School Ministry. “Eternal Treasures addresses the why, what and how of home education with useful resources and countless testimonials. It is a ‘must have’ for families involved with home education.”
Eternal Treasures is available for $14.99 on Amazon.com. To order, click here.

I really wish CPH would publish a bible curriculum for homeschool families.
Hi, Dena! I work at CPH. I’d like to help you find a CPH resource to meet your Bible curriculum needs as a home – schooling mom. I home schooled, too, so I know what it is like. You can call me through CPH’s number. Tell the customer service rep that you’d like to speak with the CPH librarian. They will connect you to my number. You can leave a message and I will call or email.
I agree. I would love to have a complete bible based curriculum for our use. We found one that was promising, but the author was having issues with her website and also personal issues so we have to move on to something else.
Thank you for creating something for the many homeschooling families in the LCMS. This is exciting! We want solid Lutheran resources. For far too long there have been so few resources written for Lutheran homeschoolers. We have great theology! Why not share it in books made specifically for homeschooling? I am glad to see CPH has noticed we exist. There is a sizeable Lutheran homeschool population in our country. (LCMS, WELS, ELS…) I still think CPH has not fully understood that a homeschool is not the same as a dayschool. Offering the Dayschool materials and calling it homeschool materials is not satisfactory. We spend a lot of money on homeschool books and sacred music every year. I would rather spend it at CPH than CBD.
I would love to see this in a Kindle edition. We are planning a move in the next few months so I’m limiting my book purchases to ebooks where I can. Any possibility that this will become available for Kindle anytime soon?
Thank you for your blog post. This is an exciting new area for our design staff! We do anticipate producing a Kindle version of Eternal Treasures though we don’t have an estimate on when it will be available. Please watch our website, our various publications and our social media sites for the information.
