Those interested in Lutheranism, history and the Church can now learn more about all three in the October issue of The Lutheran Witness. Focusing on raising awareness of and teaching about the 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation in 2017, the issue centers around the theme, “Living, Preaching and Believing Boldly.”
Readers will learn more about Luther the Reformer, how his education primed him for changing the course of history and what ultimately led him to post the 95 Theses on the door of Wittenberg’s Castle Church. Articles also address how to confess the faith boldly, a timeline of Reformation history and why Luther was a passionate yet pastoral defender of the Gospel.
Also in this edition is information about resources that are available to assist church workers, congregations, schools and others in celebrating the Reformation. Other articles are meant to help college students remain faithful Lutherans on their campuses and help parents use the catechism to teach their children the faith. Interested pastors and congregation members may also learn more about the “Preach the Word” initiative, debuting in 2016, which encourages and informs about Law and Gospel-focused preaching.
