During the 21st convention of the LCMS Indiana District, June 25-26 in Fort Wayne, Ind., delegates elected the Rev. Dr. Daniel P. May of Fort Wayne to his fifth term as district president. He was elected on the first ballot.
Also elected were:
- Rev. Dr. Daniel J. Brege, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Decatur, Ind., as first vice-president (Northeast Region). Brege previously served one term as second vice-president.
- Rev. David Shadday, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Indianapolis, second vice-president (Central Region). Shadday previously served one term as fourth vice-president.
- Rev. Dr. D. Richard Stuckwisch Jr., pastor of Emmaus Lutheran Church, South Bend, Ind., third vice-president (Northwest Region), first term.
- Rev. Robert Schneider, pastor of Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Evansville, Ind., fourth vice-president (Southern Region), first term.
Those elected to these positions were installed during the convention, which met under the theme “One Spirit and Purpose,” based on Eph. 4:4–5.
During the convention, delegates also adopted resolutions to:
- encourage the district’s congregations and circuits to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation through various education and outreach activities.
- encourage pastors and members in the district to study God’s Word, actively seek ways to share that Word with the community and support the district so that outreach might occur in new areas within the district.
- memorialize the 2016 LCMS convention to “develop a comprehensive response to recent court decisions concerning marriage that will comport with the Holy Scriptures and the traditional Lutheran understanding of marriage, including but not limited to the role of LCMS pastors acting as agents of the state and conducting a marriage ceremony.”
- thank God for five mission congregations in the district that are going through the chartering process.
- thank the 22 circuits that produced “mission plans of actions,” as requested by a resolution adopted at the 2012 Indiana District convention, and to give thanks to God for “opportunities for reaching the erring and the lost.”
- affirm and encourage continued educational outreach efforts in Gary, Ind.
- continue to support congregations in the district that participate in the Family Friendly Partners Network, which is facilitated by Director of Christian Education Ben Freudenburg, director of the Concordia Center for the Family and Family Ministry professor at Concordia University, Ann Arbor, Mich.
