‘Journal of Lutheran Mission’ considers Reformation’s impact

The August issue of the Journal of Lutheran Mission is now available for free download, with essays on the theme, “Shaping Confessional Lutheranism for the 21^st Century: The Impact of the Lutheran Reformation on Mission, Worship and Worldview.”

The essays, which were given at the Sixth World Seminaries Conference hosted by the International Lutheran Council in Wittenberg, Germany, Oct. 11-13, 2016, highlight the role of theological education in shaping worldwide confessional Lutheran identity. Essayists include the Rev. Dr. Roland Ziegler, professor of systematic theology and confessional Lutheran studies at Concordia Theological Seminary (CTSFW), Fort Wayne, Ind.; the Rev. Dr. Makito Masaki, president of Kobe Lutheran Theological Seminary, Kobe-shi, Hyogo, Japan; and the Rev. Dr. Lawrence Rast Jr., CTSFW president.

In his keynote address at the conference, the Rev. Dr. Werner Klän, professor of theology at Lutheran Theological Seminary, Oberursel, Germany, urged that the witness of the Lutheran Reformation “must be promulgated untiringly and without fear” because its “effectiveness is not ours but the Holy Spirit’s through God’s Word and the sacraments.”

This conviction pervades the August issue’s articles on hermeneutics, worship, mission, worldview and the role of theological education. Book reviews highlight works about Martin Luther, the interpretation of Scripture and essays by Hermann Sasse.
