Lutherans don’t pray to the saints. Lutherans don’t worship the saints. So how do Lutherans talk about the saints? How does the Bible talk about the saints?
Luther and the Lutheran Confessions help us understand the role of the saints in the life of the church. The word “saint” simply means “holy person.” But how can sinners be holy?
The October issue of The Lutheran Witness addresses the Lutheran view of saints both theologically and historically. In addition, you can read accounts of remembered saints, saints who played prominent roles in the church but are lesser known, and saints who are still among us.
LCMS President Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison reminds the saints to sing together and to teach the songs of the saints to each generation. And at the end, we are reminded to thank God not just for holy people, but for holy ground.
