Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, seeks nominations for a faculty position in the area of Practical Theology with particular expertise in pastoral care. The successful candidate should have a terminal degree in psychology, counseling or theology as well as significant experience and demonstrated aptitude in pastoral counseling and the care of souls. He should be competent in interpreting and processing psychological assessments and have a working knowledge of the biblical languages.
The candidate must be an ordained pastor of the LCMS or a partner church body and must have served as a pastor in a congregational setting for at least five years. He should demonstrate a strong commitment to the Scriptures as the inspired, written Word of God and to the Lutheran Confessions as a correct exposition of the Scriptures. The successful candidate will be solid in his Lutheran understanding of pastoral care and able to integrate God’s first article gifts of care and counseling with the responsibilities and pastoral conduct of Word and Sacrament ministry.
Responsibilities include teaching courses in pastoral care and other practical theology courses as needed (in both online and residential settings), teaching and advising graduate students of both the Ph.D. and the D.Min. programs, regularly attending and occasionally leading daily chapel, assisting the director of Personal Growth and Leadership Development with student assessments, and contributing to the church’s broader conversations regarding pastoral care. Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
