The Rev. Michael Lange of Brentwood, Calif., was elected to his second three-year term as president of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) California-Nevada-Hawaii (CNH) District at the district’s 72nd convention., held May 5–7 in Newark, Calif.
Lange was elected on the first ballot.
Also elected were:
- Rev. Mitchell Gowen of Alea, Hawaii, as first vice-president;
- Rev. Phil Beyer of Elko, Nev., as vice-president, Nevada region;
- Rev. Mark Zier of Hilo, Hawaii, as vice-president, Hawaii region;
- Rev. Shiu Lau of San Francisco, as vice-president, Pacific region;
- Rev. Daniel Deuel of Stockton, Calif., as vice-president, Southern region; and
- Rev. Jason Bredeson of Sacramento, Calif., as vice-president, Northern region.
The officers were installed at the convention.
Delegates adopted resolutions to:
- Make the CNH Disability Ministry Task Force a Standing Ministry Committee. The task force has been in existence for 10 years with the mission to help churches effectively reach those with disabilities with the Gospel; and
- Increase the number of students preparing for general ordination through distance-learning opportunities; expand the work of the Cross-Cultural Ministry Center at Concordia University Irvine, Irvine, Calif.; encourage the seminaries of the Synod to study different education models of training general pastors; and encourage the seminaries and the districts of the Synod to consider how they can work together to increase the number of seminary students.
The convention theme was “Building Our House(s) on the Rock.”
