The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) Michigan District met for its 104th regular convention June 22–24 at the Ann Arbor, Mich., campus of Concordia University Wisconsin and Ann Arbor (CUWAA). The convention theme, drawn from 1 Kings 19, was “Nourished for the Journey: Remember, Renew, Return.”

Delegates elected the Rev. David A. Davis, Ann Arbor, on the first ballot to a second term as district president.

Also elected were:

  • Rev. Darryl L. Andrzejewski, Lenox, Mich., Metro East Region, re-elected as first vice-president;
  • Rev. Eric K. Cloeter, Clio, Mich., North and East Region, re-elected as second vice-president;
  • Rev. Craig L. Bickel, Grand Rapids, Mich., West Region, re-elected as third vice-president; and
  • Rev. Andrew D. Gruenhagen, Plymouth, Mich., Metro West Region, elected to a first term as fourth vice-president.

All elected officers were installed during the convention, with Gruenhagen installed in absentia.

Delegates adopted resolutions:

  • To request a pause in Lutheran Identity and Mission and Outcomes Standards until voiced concerns can be addressed;
  • To express deep lament and sympathy regarding reduction of operations at the Ann Arbor campus of CUWAA; and
  • To memorialize the LCMS to address questions of clarity and transparency in the prior approval process for appointing faculty and presidents at Concordia universities and seminaries.

The Rev. Anthony Oliphant is pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Elmhurst, Ill.
