The New England District of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) met for its 20th regular convention June 12–14 in Springfield, Mass. The convention theme was “Built on the Rock,” inspired by Matthew 7:24. The Rev. Robert D. Beinke, Plainville, Conn., was elected by acclamation to a second term as district president.
Also elected were:
- Rev. Peter F. Gregory, Westminster, Mass., Region 1, re-elected as first vice-president;
- Rev. Randall L. Pekari, Windsor, Conn., Region 2, elected to a first term as second vice-president; and
- Rev. Scott M. MacDonald, Meriden, Conn., Region 3, elected as third vice-president.
All officers were installed during the convention.
Delegates adopted resolutions:
- To realign circuits in the district, reducing the number of visitation circuits from seven to five, allowing each of the five circuits to qualify as electoral circuits for LCMS conventions; and
- To direct the district board of directors to investigate and inform congregations about legal requirements for paternity and maternity leave and discuss the feasibility of developing leave guidelines for pastors and other rostered church workers.
The Rev. Anthony Oliphant is pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Elmhurst, Ill.
