Bolstered by gifts brought to its 63rd Regular Convention, The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod’s 2007 National Offering has reached $455,105.
Of that figure, $179,219 was contributed during the six-day convention. Delegates had been encouraged to bring offerings from their home congregations to the Houston meeting.
“Preparing Pastors Worldwide” is the theme for the offering, and organizers say they are hoping to raise at least $1 million to fund the training of Lutheran pastors in the United States and abroad. The offering was initiated in late May and continues until the next LCMS convention in 2010.
Two-thirds of the funds received will support the Synod’s two seminaries — Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind. The remaining one-third will benefit seminaries of LCMS partner church bodies around the world.
