The Convention Workbook 2004 and three supplemental books, all with the theme of “One Mission Ablaze,” were mailed the last week of April to convention delegates and to all rostered church workers in the Synod.
Synod Secretary Raymond Hartwig said that the mailing was to have been completed by April 30.
Concordia Publishing House mailed some 20,800 copies of the 2004 Workbook along with supplemental booklets on the new hymnal being proposed to the convention, the report of the pro tem Commission on Structure that is proposing a revision of the Synod Handbook, and biographical synopses and statements of those nominated for election at the convention.
The Convention Workbook, at 472 pages, contains 494 overtures (proposed resolutions), 60 fewer than the 2001 edition. The overtures are submitted by congregations, districts, pastoral conferences, boards, commissions and other Synod entities.
Eight convention floor committees will meet May 21-24 in St. Louis to draft resolutions for convention action, based on the overtures.
For the 2001 convention, the floor committees proposed 112 resolutions that they boiled down from 554 overtures.
