Rev. David P. Schmidt retires Jan. 3 after serving as senior vice president of Capital Funding Services (CFS), a Synod-based fund-raising organization that is part of the Lutheran Church Extension Fund.
In 1992, Schmidt helped found CFS, which has worked with 600-some congregations and agencies, “helping their members commit more than $225 million to help make ministry visions realities,” according to the LCEF news release announcing his retirement.
A 1963 graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Schmidt began work at the Synod offices in St. Louis as a stewardship counselor in 1989. Previously, he was pastor of congregations in New York, South Dakota, Nebraska, California and Kansas.
