Concordia University, Irvine, Calif., seeks applicants to fill possible faculty openings in the disciplines listed below. Enrollment will determine which positions are funded for the 2005-2006 academic year.
To be considered, a candidate must be a member of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod and should possess a graduate degree in the field. A doctor’s degree is normally required, but a candidate with a master’s degree who is willing and able to pursue a doctorate may be considered.
Dean, School of Business. The dean is the academic officer of the School of Business with responsibility for academic planning, budget management, curriculum development, course scheduling, instruction, evaluation and professional development of faculty and staff, and allocation of learning resources. The dean promotes and oversees the Dean’s Advisory Board, builds relationships with area businesses and actively engages in fund raising for the school. Director, Athletic Training Education Program. The director oversees the day-to-day operation, coordination, supervision and evaluation of all aspects of the athletic training program, teaches classes in the Exercise and Sport Science Division, including courses in athletic training, physiology and kinesiology, and provides clinical support to the university’s athletic department. Must be NATABOC certified and possess First Aid and CPR or EMT equivalent certification.
Director of Athletics/Exercise and Sport Science. The director of athletics oversees the day-to-day operation, coordination, supervision and evaluation of all aspects of the athletic program. As a member of the Exercise and Sport Science faculty, the director teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses, including classes in pedagogy and coaching. Athletic Trainer. As a full-time member of the faculty, the trainer supervises and evaluates students in the athletic training program, teaches classes in the Exercise and Sport Science Division, including courses in athletic training, physiology and kinesiology, and provides clinical support to the university’s athletic department. Must be NATABOC certified and possess First Aid and CPR or EMT equivalent certification.
Business. Instruction of courses may include the following: marketing, finance, accounting and information technology. Teaching experience is required; experience in the business world a plus.
Communication. Instruction of courses may include the following: public speaking, journalism, organizational communication, communication theory and/or criticism. Experience with and interest in directing a forensic program is preferred, but not required.
Education. Qualified candidates will have specific training and/or experience in one or more of the following areas: language acquisition, literacy, evaluation and assessment, and/or instructional methods. Experience as a K-12 classroom teacher in culturally diverse settings is a high priority. Candidates with a terminal degree in education or a related field or current enrollment in a doctoral program will be given preference.
Instrumental Music. Oversee and direct growth of the instrumental music program, providing opportunities for wind, percussion and string musicians in performance organizations such as wind symphony or chamber orchestra and small ensembles, as well as teaching courses in instrumental techniques and arranging. May include one or more of the following duties: applied music in the candidate’s specialty, music theory or history, and general music. A terminal degree in the field is preferred; a master’s degree or higher in instrumental music and several years of high school or college experience is expected.
Theatre. Instruction of courses including either acting/directing or theatre history/literature plus general education courses in theatre appreciation. The position also requires the ability to direct mainstage productions and/or lead the university’s touring theatre program.
