Lutheran World Relief (LWR), Baltimore, is offering three “study visits” early next year that are designed to give participants a firsthand look at the relief and development organization’s overseas work:
- On LWR’s “Coffee Project Trip to Nicaragua,” Jan. 5-14, participants will visit coffee farms and interact with farm families to learn about “fair trade” coffee and its impact on poverty and other social-justice issues. Cost is $1,295, plus roundtrip airfare to Managua. Application deadline is Oct. 6.
- A similar study visit to Nicaragua, “Coffee, Cafta, and Caldera,” is planned for March 17-24. The cost of $2,390 includes roundtrip airfare between Omaha, Neb., and Managua. Deadline is Dec. 4.
- “Faith and Witness in the Holy Land,” Feb. 26-March 9, includes visits to Augusta Victoria Hospital in Jerusalem, the International Center of Bethlehem, the Dar al Kalima Health and Wellness Center in Bethlehem, and a discussion with Palestinian Lutheran pastor Dr. Mitri Raheb. Participants will have opportunities to see how LWR and its partners are working for peace between Palestinians and Israelis. The $2,895 cost includes roundtrip airfare from Chicago. Deadline is Oct. 24.
