The Board for Mission Services (BFMS) is seeking nominations for regional director deployed to Africa. The regional director reports to the associate executive director for the International Mission Team.
As a member of the International Mission Team, the regional director leads the development of LCMS World Mission programs in the Area of Africa, and coordinates the design, documentation, monitoring, and evaluation of program activities in their region for the purpose of assuring the ongoing quality of LCMS World Mission’s Balanced Focus Plan* objectives including igniting a global Lutheran mission movement, building the capacity of the LCMS to function as a partner in mission initiatives, building the capacity of mission team members, strengthening the capacity of Board for Mission Services members to support the work of LCMS World Mission and supporting the sharing of the Good News of Jesus Christ with 100 million unreached or uncommitted people by the 500th anniversary of the Reformation (2017). Works with the associate executive director of the International Mission Team as the representative of the regional mission team and with mission partners to establish priorities and develop a comprehensive Balanced Focus Plan* for global mission outreach. In close consultation and cooperation with relevant mission partners and responders, especially mission societies, partner church leaders, LCMS districts, congregations and mission teams, facilitates the design of LCMS World Mission program activities in their region and ensures they are properly documented, monitored, and evaluated for the purpose of assuring the ongoing quality of LCMS World Mission initiatives. Provides for the formation and proper administration of an annual budget aligned with the Balanced Focus Plan*. Provides for the development of the teams in their region and individual team members in accord with the Missionary Support Manual.
Nominees must be an active member of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod or any of its partner churches with personal faithfulness to the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions.; committed to LCMS World Mission’s Purpose Statement and Balanced Focus Plan*; have cross-cultural ministry experience in a leadership capacity and be sensitive to the needs of teams and their members with a demonstrated ability to respond to those needs; have the ability to maintain performance expectations in diverse cultural contexts, psychologically stressful environments, and physical hardship conditions with limited resources; have the ability to establish and maintain diplomatic relationships with other organizations and their leaders; possess demonstrated skill in communication, both oral and written, and the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the e-mail functions and calendar functions of Microsoft Outlook.
