The Lutheran Campus Mission Association (LCMA) is sponsoring two training events that focus on outreach on college campuses. LCMA is in partnership with LCMS World Mission to support, promote, and expand campus missions Synodwide.
The upcoming training conferences are:
- the fourth annual Campus Mission Confabulation, May 17-20 in Tampa, Fla., which is designed for anyone who is interested in sharing Christ’s love on campus — whether they’re starting a campus mission, already involved in a campus mission, or trying to revive a struggling campus mission. Under the theme “Come, Bask in the SON,” from Isaiah 60:1 and Matt. 11:28-30, participants will be taught “whole-life wellness” and ways they can offer that wellness to others.
Keynote speaker will be Ben Glenn, an acclaimed public speaker, comedian, and author who is known as “The Chalk Guy.” Bible studies will be led by Rev. Jon Thomas, associate pastor of Holy Cross Lutheran Ministries in Lake Mary, Fla. The band “Rough Draft” will perform throughout the Confabulation.
Also offered will be breakout sessions on spiritual well-being, physical well-being, emotional well-being, and financial well-being, and a day of “fun and intentional witnessing” at Busch Gardens amusement park.
Co-sponsors of the Confabulation are LCMS World Mission and Lutheran Student Fellowship, the Synod’s organization for college-age young people. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provided funding.
Registration, which includes five meals, a T-shirt, and a pass to Busch Gardens, is $145 for college students and $195 for others by April 1; or $195 for college students and $245 for others by April 15.

- the Campus Missionary Institute, June 12-17 at Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon, which is designed to help campus-ministry workers develop and implement a strategic plan for outreach on college campuses.
The six-day, in-depth training conference provides “how-to” ministry ideas and seeks to recharge campus workers for renewed service. It is co-sponsored by LCMS World Mission.
Presenters include Dr. Robert Scudieri and Rev. Scott Snow, associate executive director for national missions and national director of outreach, respectively, with LCMS World Mission; Dr. Patrick Ferry and Rev. Steve Smith, president and campus pastor, respectively, at Concordia University Wisconsin; Rev. Greg Fairow, campus mission catalyst with LCMA; and Angelina Iturrian, demographics consultant with Lutheran Church Extension Fund. Wendysue, a Milwaukee-area contemporary Christian singer, songwriter, and musician, will perform.
Enrollment is limited to the first 20 qualified applicants. Early application by April 21 is $150; regular application by May 5 is $200. The application fee includes most meals and on-campus lodging.
