Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is expanding a national disaster-response funding program it announced in May to include “any state in which … four major Lutheran disaster response organizations [including LCMS World Relief and Human Care (WR-HC)] are providing support.”
Click here for a May 12 Reporter Online story about the original offer, which committed up to $250,000 from Thrivent for tornado disaster response for those affected by the April 27 tornado outbreak that tore through four southern states.
“Due to the widespread tornado, storm and flood damage this spring,” Thrivent has expanded the offer to apply to any state in which the four organizations provide support, according to a June 8 news release.
Also, the deadline for this program has been extended to Aug. 1.
Essentially, for every $2 raised by chapter service teams (individuals from at least six separate Thrivent Financial member families), Thrivent will provide an additional $1, up to its total $250,000 commitment.
Funds generated via this program will be distributed through the four relief organizations.
Besides WR-HC, those organizations are Lutheran Disaster Response, ELCA Disaster Response and WELS Christian Aid and Relief.
