Synod President Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison was guest preacher at the opening worship service of the North Dakota District convention — the first of 35 LCMS district conventions to be held this year through July.
The convention, Jan. 22-25 in Grand Forks, N.D., is meeting under the theme “Now You Are the People of God,” from 1 Peter 2:10. The district includes 87 congregations with a total of more than 22,000 baptized members.
Held every three years, LCMS district conventions offer opportunities for worship, nurture, inspiration, fellowship and information sharing. They are the districts’ principal legislative assemblies, which elect officers, amend articles of incorporation and bylaws, consider and take action on reports and overtures, and handle appropriate appeals.
“Witness, Mercy, Life Together: Blessings — Challenges — Opportunities,” a video from Harrison’s office, will be shown at each district convention. The video highlights what God is doing through the LCMS — via congregations, districts and the ministries based at the International Center in St. Louis — told through the lens of the church body’s “Witness, Mercy, Life Together” emphasis.
