These images show the destruction ravaged by Typhoon Haiyan as it barreled across the Philippines Friday, Nov. 8, 2013. News reports indicate that more than 10,000 people are feared dead. Thousands more are homeless and the damage to property is widespread and enormous. In response to a request for help from The Lutheran Church in the Philippines, a Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) partner church, the LCMS disaster response ministry is providing immediate relief and preparing for long-term recovery assistance. Three Lutheran Church of the Philippines congregations are in the hardest hit area. At least one church and parsonage were destroyed as were individual homes, crops and livestock. Please join us in praying for all those affected by the super storm. Because the LCMS typically receives nearly half of its annual charitable support in the months of November and December, we encourage donors to prayerfully consider a gift to LCMS Disaster Response that is in addition to any planned year-end gift intended to help sustain the ongoing witness and mercy work of the Synod.
