Just as Jesus cared for body and spirit, Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod missions offer spiritual and earthly care. Word-and-Sacrament ministries are offered alongside Mercy ministries. In Lima, Peru, Caitlin Worden, missionary and deaconess intern, serves as the director of Castillo Fuerte, a mercy house that provides a Christian haven for the children of the La Victoria district. The children, who would otherwise be left to wander the dangerous streets, receive mentoring as well as hear God’s Word. Not only are Peruvians receiving God’s love in the form of the Word and Sacrament offered during the mission’s worship services, but they also receive emotional and physical care at Castillo Fuerte.
