Concordia University Texas, Austin, has been selected to receive a Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE) Program Development Grant for $49,760 to enhance the university’s Center for Vocation & Professional Development. Through the Center, students “explore and discern meaningful work through calling,” according to a university news release.
NetVUE is a nationwide network of some 170 colleges and universities formed to enrich the intellectual and theological exploration of vocation among undergraduate students. The initiative is administered by the Council of Independent Colleges.
Concordia University Texas President Dr. Don Christian said the school is “very pleased” to receive the grant, which is to be used over the next two years — May 1, 2016, through April 30, 2018. “One of our goals as a Lutheran institution of higher education is to prepare leaders for meaningful work, and this grant will allow us to enhance our efforts.”
Concordia is among 20 NetVUE members in the fourth round of recipients of these awards. As part of NetVUE, the university shares ideas and resources in cooperation with other institutions on how to integrate vocation into every aspect of college life — extra-curricular activities, educational tracks and life outside the classroom.
The grant will be used to build on and enhance existing programming, including funding a “holistic advising model that integrates vocational journey, life and career with academics.”
