During its 63rd convention, held Feb. 16–18 in Sioux Falls, S.D., The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) South Dakota District elected the Rev. Randy R. Sturzenbecher, Black Hawk, S.D., to his first term as district president.
Sturzenbecher had served as district vice-president since 2018.
The convention also elected:
- Matthew Wurm, Brookings, S.D., first vice-president (first term); and
- Corey Aker, Sioux Falls, S.D., second vice-president (first term).
Both vice-presidents were installed during the convention. Sturzenbecher is scheduled to be installed May 4.
The convention theme was “God’s Gospel: Salvation’s Power,” drawn from Rom. 1:16–17. Delegates adopted resolutions to:
- Continue partnership with Lutheran Family Service of Iowa, which provides counseling, adoption services and more to individuals, church workers and congregations throughout the district.
- Provide district support for Together in Mission, partnering in mission efforts with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Jastram in southeast Asia, the Rev. Jordan Andreasen in Romania, the Rev. Samuel Bobby in Latvia, and the Rev. Jonah Domenichelli in Germany.
- Approve amendments to district bylaws, including allowing ordained men serving in the district office to accept calls to congregations as assisting pastors.
