HOUSTON–Delegates to the 64th Regular Convention of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod here July 17 adopted two “omnibus” resolutions:
- Resolution B declines to take action on 15 overtures that previous LCMS conventions already addressed. In the resolution, those overtures refer to the convention year and specific resolutions that relate to them.
- Resolution D commends 11 individuals and entities, including the Lutheran Church in Korea, the Anglican Church in North America, the Concordia Historical Institute Museum development in 2009, Higher Things, “Issues Etc.,” and the Children’s Ministry, Family Ministry, School Ministry, Singles Ministry, Stewardship Ministry and Youth Ministry departments of LCMS District and Congregational Services.
Adopted earlier in the convention was Resolution A, which refers nearly two dozen overtures submitted to the appropriate LCMS entities for further study or action. The resolution was amended by removing two overtures: 1-06, “to provide exclusively Lutheran theological training for missionaries,” referred to the Board for Mission Services, and 6-05, to “report promptly the deaths of faithfully departed soldiers of the cross”–delegates voted to print such notices in The Lutheran Witness, as well as online.
The convention is meeting July 10-17 under the theme “ONE People–Forgiven.” Among the approximately 3,000 participants are some 1,200 clergy and lay voting delegates.
