Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, is offering two training events this fall for church workers and laypeople:
- The “Lay Leadership Retreat,” Sept. 30-Oct. 2, is designed for congregational officers, elders, and other lay leaders. It will be led by Dr. Harold L. Senkbeil, associate professor of pastoral ministry and missions at the seminary.
Topics to be covered include “Understanding and confessing Lutheran doctrine,” “Understanding pastoral and lay roles,” “Understanding the role of elders and other lay leaders,” “Encouraging effective outreach,” and “How to sort fact from fiction in the worship controversies.”
Registration is $135 and includes on-campus lodging and meals. Deadline is Sept. 16. - “Enter the Biblical World: How to Read the Catechism,” Oct. 7-8, is open to church workers and laypeople.
Presenters and their topics include President Dr. Dean O. Wenthe, “Understanding the Ten Commandments for daily life,” and Professors Dr. David P. Scaer, “Understanding the Creed for daily life”; Dr. Harold L. Senkbeil, “Understanding the Lord’s Prayer for daily life”; Dr. Roland F. Ziegler, “Understanding Holy Baptism for daily life”; and Dr. K. Detlev Schulz, “Understanding Confession and the Sacrament of the Altar for daily life.”
Registration is $35 and includes two meals.
