Eight men and eight women will be invited to participate in two consultations with the Commission on Theology and Church Relations (CTCR) as it gathers input for completion of its comprehensive study of the Scriptural relationship of men and women.
A story in the June 2006 Reporter gave early details about the consultations.
“We’ve spent a lot of time to put a process in place and to select the participants,” commented Dr. Samuel Nafzger, CTCR executive director. He said the commission wanted a representation of ages, types of service, and positions in the church.
The consultations are scheduled for Dec. 4-5 and April 16-17 and precede regular meetings of the commission.
Speakers at the first event include Dr. Gilbert Meilaender, Christian ethicist and theology professor at Valparaiso University; Dr. Gregory Lockwood, pastor in the Lutheran Church of Australia and author of the Concordia commentary on 1 Corinthians; and Dr. Barbara Brunworth, director of Lutheran Counseling Services, Inc., Dallas.
The commission will use information from the consultations for its 1995 convention assignment, “To Prepare a Comprehensive Study of the Scriptural Relationship of Man and Woman” (Res. 3-10).
