This month’s update comes from Sam Borgwardt, business manager for the LCMS Asia region.
Grace and peace to all of you through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! The LCMS Asia region continues to spread the Gospel, plant Lutheran churches and show mercy throughout Asia, with a distinct emphasis on connecting people to their local Lutheran churches, where they can continue to hear God’s Word and receive His Sacraments.
Throughout June, I was blessed to assist in the translation of the Divine Service every Sunday at our local Lutheran congregation in Chiayi, Taiwan. The local China Evangelical Lutheran Church (CELC) congregation is called Salvation Lutheran and is shepherded by the Rev. Alex Wu. Rev. Wu is a faithful Lutheran pastor, and his preaching is all about Christ crucified for all. Please hold him and Salvation Lutheran in your prayers, that the Lord would continue to use them to preach the Gospel to many in Taiwan.
In June, I also had the opportunity to visit with our brothers in The Lutheran Church—Hong Kong Synod (LCHKS). The LCHKS Literature Department has faithfully been translating Luther’s Works into Chinese. The LCMS is proud to assist with this LCHKS-led project and to augment the work where we can. It was a blessing to meet with the LCHKS Literature Department and the faithful pastors who work there. Please pray that the LCHKS Literature Department continues to be faithful to the original text of Luther’s Works and that the translators and editors remain faithful in their Lutheran theology.
Please also pray that the Chinese Edition of Luther’s Works may reach many in the Chinese-speaking populations with the Gospel of Jesus Christ crucified for their sins, and that the Lord would call many to faith through His work in the LCHKS.
