The delegates of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) North Wisconsin District (NWD) met June 1–2 in Rothschild, Wis., for the district’s 54th regular convention. The convention theme was “Alive,” drawn from Hebrews 4:12.
The Rev. Timothy J. Shoup, Bonduel, Wis., was elected, on the third ballot, to his first term as district president. He has served as pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bonduel, since 1998 and as first vice-president of the NWD since 2022. The outgoing district president, Rev. Dr. Dwayne M. Lueck, announced his retirement after serving four terms.
Also elected were:
- Donald Engebretson, Antigo, Wis., to his first term as first vice-president;
- Preston Paul, Eau Claire, Wis., to his second term as second vice-president; and
- Ryan Fehrmann, Bonduel, Wis., to his second term as third vice-president.
All elected officers were installed during the convention.
The delegates adopted resolutions to:
- Recognize Lueck for his years of faithful service to the NWD;
- Create, distribute and promote the resources addressed in the Worker Wellness Strategic Plan;
- Give thanks to God for all His gracious gifts, especially the newly established NWD Labor of Love endowment, which raised over $1 million over the past triennium for professional church workers’ educational debt relief; and
- Encourage NWD congregations and ministries to make sexual abuse awareness training a requirement for all staff members, volunteers and leaders who work with children and youth.
The Rev. Anthony Oliphant is pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Elmhurst, Ill.
