The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) SELC District re-elected the Rev. Waldemar R. Vinovskis of Macungie, Penn., to his third term as district president at the district’s 20th convention, held Jan. 16-19 in Lake Mary, Fla.
Vinovskis was unanimously elected on the first ballot. He also serves as pastor of Concordia Lutheran Church, Macungie, Penn.
Also elected were:
- Rev. Dr. Wally Arp of Oviedo, Fla., as first vice-president;
- Rev. Dr. Christopher Cahill of Lodi, Ohio, as second vice-president;
- Rev. Jon Palmer of Columbia, Ill., as third vice-president.
All elected officers were installed during the convention.
Drawn from Acts 13:47, the convention theme was “Called to Be Light.” Delegates adopted resolutions to:
- Encourage every congregation to adopt a missionary to support with prayers and, if possible, financial support.
- Address persecution of the church by encouraging pastors to continue training and by equipping the saints to face persecution faithfully and in good conscience.
The non-geographical district, which has its roots in the Slovak Evangelical Lutheran Church, has 51 congregations in 10 states and two Canadian provinces.
The Rev. Anthony Oliphant is at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Elmhurst, Ill.
