HOUSTON—During voting July 14, two ordained pastors and four laypeople were elected to the LCMS Board of Directors.
The 64th Regular Convention of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod is meeting July 10-17 at the George R. Brown Convention Center under the theme “ONE People—Forgiven.” Among the approximately 3,000 participants are some 1,200 clergy and lay voting delegates.
On the first ballot for the LCMS Board of Directors, layperson, with 570 votes needed for election, delegates elected Warren Puck (778 votes) of Manning, Iowa; James W. Carter Jr. of Arlington Heights, Ill. (668 votes); Ed Everts of Dubuque, Iowa (652 votes); and Keith Frndak of Saxonburg, Pa. (635 votes).
Two ordained pastors were elected to the board. Dr. Victor J. Belton of Atlanta, Ga., was returned to the Board on the second ballot (583 votes required for election) with 657 votes. Rev. Michael L. Kumm of Millstadt, Ill., was elected to the board on the fourth ballot, with 589 votes (584 required).
In other convention voting, Dr. Raymond L. Hartwig of St. Louis was returned to the office of secretary of the Synod for his fifth term, with 998 votes (550 votes needed for election).
