The 2005-06 Lutheran World Relief (LWR) Handcraft Project catalog — featuring hundreds of handmade items from artisans around the world — is now available.
Included in the full-color catalog are food and home-decor items, baskets, crosses, jewelry, Christmas ornaments, nativity sets, purses, rugs, clothing, kitchenware, games and toys, wind chimes and musical instruments from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
Featured handcrafts “represent vital income to artisans, allowing them to feed their families, educate their children, and improve their communities as a whole,” writes LWR President Kathryn Wolford on the catalog’s opening page.
Artisans whose work is sold through the catalog are paid a fair price, giving them “greater dignity and better livelihoods,” according to Wolford.
The catalog and sales of its featured products are coordinated by SERRV International, a nonprofit trade and development organization that contributes 10 percent of each purchase to LWR. Those funds are used by LWR to “further our life-changing work in communities around the world,” says Wolford.
