Faith Lutheran Church and School in Huntsville, Texas would appreciate some guidance on this new law and how it applies to us. As we understand this, it would close our doors since we would have to raise our tuition in order to pay for the increase for just a few employees, which would put us out of the private school market in our community. Also, this deadline falls in the middle of our contract period and this webinar does not help us to deal with several other issues that seem to make it impossible for us to comply. Please contact Kristie Pacher, our director/principal. It seems like this law will close down many non-profit and religious institutions, even including many churches. I am the Chair of the Faith Lutheran School Ministry Board.

Thank you for your comment. Ultimately, the decisions a congregation, school or other organization makes in this regard should be based on state and local sexual orientation gender identity (SOGI) laws and should be reviewed by a qualified legal counsel. Please have your principal contact your district office for additional help and information.

        Thank you for this webinar.

One note – I’m finding that the reference to “state and local sexual orientation gender identity (SOGI) laws” make this a confusing reply to the original commenter’s question, as if the reply was intended for a comment to a different (previous?) webinar on the transgender bathrooms issue.

It looks like the day of semi open stalls in bathrooms is over. Having bathrooms for privacy that are individual and can accommodate a caregiver might solve the problem for people with disabilities as well as with unusual external sex organs, for whatever reason, i.e. urine draining systems, colostomies etc . Perhaps having a common area for washbasins would be appropriate. In private homes we go in a room shut the door and do our business and it seems like the same should be possible in churches and community facilities. It also needs to be said that some toilet areas should be handicap accessible as should the washbasins. Perhaps having an attendant in the area of the bathrooms would be appropriate to prevent misuse of the facilities. Thereby, all of the facilities could be unisex and use no more room than currently used.
