In their first official action of the convention, voting delegates adopt a resolution that encourages widespread support and participation in the Koinonia — or harmony — Project.
The Rev. Dr. Leopoldo Sánchez of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, reminds delegates, “It is in our Baptism that we truly learn anew who we are before God and before one another.”

ST. LOUIS, July 21, 2013—Francis G. Slay, mayor of the city of St. Louis, has proclaimed July 20-25, 2013, as “The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) Week.” The proclamation, issued as the church’s 65th Regular Convention begins, recognizes the contributions of the people of the LCMS to the region.

Tonight’s Divine Service at the America’s Center Convention Complex in St. Louis is the opening event of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s (LCMS) 65th Regular Convention. The service will focus on the convention theme, “Baptized for This Moment,” based on Acts 2:38-39.
In broadcast interviews and newspaper articles, LCMS President Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison also answers questions about his first and upcoming terms in office.
“What They Need to Hear — Sharing Christ with Family and Friends” includes 90 letters written by the Rev. Klemet I. Preus to his elderly father-in-law, who questioned God and the Church.
The five nominees are the Rev. Dr. Carl C. Fickenscher II, the Rev. Dr. Herbert C. Mueller Jr., the Rev. Dr. Scott R. Murray, the Rev. Daniel Preus and the Rev. Dr. John C. Wohlrabe Jr.
