After holding virtual Call Day services in 2020 due to the nationwide COVID-19 shutdown, the two seminaries of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod were able, by God’s grace, to return to in-person Call Day celebrations in 2021.
The LCMS Council of Presidents conducted its fourth meeting of 2020 (its third via Zoom video conference) on Nov. 16–18, with discussion of the pandemic’s impact on the church dominating the meeting.
Due to ongoing effects of the pandemic, the LCMS Council of Presidents voted unanimously to encourage LCMS President Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison to put before congregations a proposal to delay the 2022 Synod convention.
At its September meeting, the group considered the continuing impact of the coronavirus across the church while looking ahead to what will happen when the pandemic subsides and the country fully reopens.
The Nov. 18–21 meeting was held concurrently with meetings of the LCMS Board of Directors, Concordia University System and a gathering of business and office managers from across the Synod.
Among other business, the Board heard a report from the Synod president, elected a new BOD member, and thanked retiring CFO Jerry Wulf for his service.
Floor Committee 10 on Ecclesiastical Supervision and Dispute Resolution presented resolutions to clarify bylaws and to thank those who have worked diligently to ensure the consistency and faithfulness of such work.
